Palmer Lake, Colorado

General William Jackson Palmer founded Palmer Lake in 1871. The town was incorporated in 1889. Palmer Lake itself is one of three lakes in the region: Palmer Lake, Monument Lake and Lake Woodmoor. Due to the long on-going drought conditions, Palmer Lake dried up completely in the summer of 2012 and the citizens opted to not use water from their two separate reservoirs to refill Lake Palmer for purely aesthetic reasons.

Palmer Lake, the town, sits on the Palmer Divide: the ridge that runs eastward from the Front Range and separates the Platte River drainage to the north from the Arkansas River drainage to the south.
