Wheat Ridge, Colorado

Wheat Ridge was founded as a farming/ranching community in 1859. In the beginning the local folks supplied Denver and nearby mining communities but over time, Wheat Ridge farmers became the largest producers of carnations in the world... but it lost that title in the mid-20th century. The town didn't incorporate until August 1969 when it was faced with being annexed by surrounding cities.
