Sheridan Lake, Colorado

Sheridan Lake is a tiny town on the eastern side of Kiowa County named for General Philip H. Sheridan. The town is named for a small lake just to the south... but with the ongoing drought conditions, that lake is little more than a dry bed of alkali these days. It's obvious the town has seen better days...

There was a time when Sheridan Lake was the Kiowa County seat but a fire in 1900 burned the courthouse to the ground. The settlers in Eads began to agitate to move the county seat there so an election was held and both Eads and Sheridan Lake claimed victory. However, a group of men from Eads arrived shortly and forcibly removed all the county records to Eads and that was the end of that.
