The Bureau of Land Management has designated many roads that are mostly on BLM property as Backcountry Byways. Some of the roads are fully paved and can be driven in any normal city vehicle. Others require a good, 4WD high clearance vehicle in the hands of an experienced 4WD operator. And there's everything in between. These roads tend to be in the western states and they all have at least one thing in common: they travel through some exceptional countryside, usually in the middle of nowhere.

The list below is as complete as we have so far been able to make it but there's no guarantee that we've got everything yet (there's a lot to get out there...)
