National Park Service Sites in West Virginia

The New River Gorge National River is one of only 15 so-designated rivers in the United States. The National Scenic River and Wild & Scenic River designations are different, somehow.

The Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network is a network of National Park Service sites spread across all the states with tributary streams that feed into Chesapeake Bay.

Harpers Ferry played a large role before and during the Civil War, and the National Historic Park there has preserved a lot of the old buildings that figure highly in that story.
