A mineral creation of the hot springs

Hot Springs State Park is home to the world's largest natural hot springs. Some 8,000 gallons of 135°F water flow across the mineral terraces every day here along the side of the Bighorn River. The park has a free bath house where the water temperature is maintained at a more healthy and therapeutic 104°F. Use of the bath house is free but there is a nominal charge for rental of towels and swimsuits. The Bath House is open Monday through Saturday from 8 AM to 5:30 PM and on Sundays from noon to 5:30 PM. In the winter, the Bath House is closed on holidays, but is open on summer holidays from noon to 5:30 PM.

Hot Springs State Park is a full service but day-use only park. There are picnic shelters, rest rooms, 6.2 miles of universally accessible trails, a couple of boat docks, and some excellent fishing spots on the Bighorn. There are also three large group picnic shelters available by reservation.

Wyoming State Parks keeps their main bison herd at Hot Springs. For a really special treat, you'll want to be here at 8:30 AM in the late fall and winter when the bison are fed their daily health food supplements: even from the safety of your vehicle you'll be able to get a pretty good, up close view of these magnificent animals.

Also in the park is the famous "Swinging Bridge," a suspension foot bridge across the Bighorn River. If you can take the motion, you can get a unique view of the river and the mineral terrace. And Hot Springs State Park is well known for the size and beauty of its summer flower gardens, a very photogenic place filled with great colors all season long.

Hot Springs State Park is located on State Road 120, off of US 20 in the town of Thermopolis. US Highway 20 going south out of Thermopolis is also known as the Wind River Canyon Scenic Byway.
