At the edge of Virgin
Virgin is a small town on the Virgin River, east of St. George and west of Zion National Park at the place where the Kolob Reservoir Road heads northeast from Utah State Road 9 and crosses the center of Zion National Park.
In May of 2000, the local government passed an ordinance requiring every homeowner to keep and maintain a firearm.
I drove through Virgin in the fall of 2015, thinking I'd make a visit to Zion. However, a rockslide in the middle of the previous night had blocked the road on the other side of Zion Canyon and the only way in was via a tour bus. The lines were too long for my taste... so I came back to virgin from the east and found the entry to the Kolob Reservoir Road on the east side of town (which if you blink, you miss). Thankfully, I got there during the road crew's lunch hour and was allowed to drive over that (they were repairing and repaving that road to where it exited Zion National Park on the east side, near the road to Lava Overlook).
