New Harmony, Utah

New Harmony was settled in the early 1850's as part of the Mormon effort to mine and process iron ore discovered in the area. The settlers built a crude iron foundry in 1852 but the whole business died because of the cost of transport and other logistical issues. Folks stayed, though, because the farming was pretty good.
