Passing through Altamont
The site of Altamont was chosen for the construction of a new regional high school in the 1930's. The school was finished in 1935 and has been expanded since, the last time in 2012. The name comes from the combination of two local villages: Altonah and Mount Emmons. The village of Altamont became incorporated in 1953.
