Sierra County is in south central New Mexico. Elephant Butte Lake is here, as are some great hot springs. Sierra County was formed in 1884 and contains 4,180 square miles of land and 56 square miles of water. The county seat and largest town is Truth or Consequences.

Spaceport America, the world's first commercially-operated privately-owned spaceport facility opened for business about 20 miles southeast of Truth or Consequences on October 18, 2011. The primary tenants are Virgin Galactic, UP Aerospace, Armadillo Aerospace and SpaceX.

Sierra County is home to Percha Dam, Elephant Butte Lake and Caballo Lake State Parks and most of the Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway.
