Ruidoso Downs is a village that grew into a town in the early 2000's. The original basis for the settlement was to build a racetrack outside the city limits of Ruidoso. Today, the town contains Ruidoso Downs, the Hubbard Museum of the American West and the Billy the Kid Casino (on Indian-owned land). The town has also hosted the Lincoln Cowboy Symposium (an annual event celebrating the cowboy/ranching lifestyle) for more than 20 years.
