Roosevelt County is in eastern New Mexico with Texas to the east. Named in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, Roosevelt County was formed in 1903 and contains 2,448 square miles of land and 6 square miles of water. The county seat and largest city is Portales.

Roosevelt County is home to Grulla National Wildlife Refuge and Oasis State Park.
