Cibola County stretches from the central mountains to the Arizona border in west-central New Mexico. Formed in 1981 from the western portion of Valencia County, Cibola County contains 4,539 square miles of land and 2 square miles of water. The county seat and largest city is Grants.

Cibola County is home to Bluewater Lake State Park, Cebolla and West Malpais Wilderness areas, El Malpais National Conservation Area, Chain of Craters Back Country Byway and the El Morro and El Malpais National Monuments.
