Anthony was long a "census designated place" but became an incorporated city with a mayor and full board of city councilors on July 1, 2010. Relatively speaking, the percentage turnout for the voting was very low as so much of the population is ineligible to vote.

The city is located directly against the Texas-New Mexico state line adjacent to the northern suburbs of El Paso and about 27 miles southeast of Las Cruces. It's a "less affluent" city with more than 40% of the population scratching out a living below the federal poverty line.

The population of Anthony is up more than 20% since 2000.
