Discovery Ski Area

Discovery Ski Area
Discovery Ski Area on Rumsey Mountain

High in the Pintler Mountains, Discovery Ski Area is known for light snow, high country, steep slopes, great cruisers, and a friendly atmosphere. The 2 north-facing bowls offer some pretty steep terrain, while the front side offers some excellent beginner and intermediate runs. Powder bowls, mogul runs, tree skiing, great boarding air, and well-groomed trails... there's something for everyone at Discovery. There's even lessons, rentals and world-class cross country skiing available.

This is not an urbanized resort: this is Montana Big Country and there's no condos in sight. There is a lodge, though, and the restaurant inside offers an excellent buffet. There's also a lounge in a cozy corner, upstairs in the lodge.

Discovery Ski Area is at Georgetown Lake, 23 miles west of Anaconda on the Pintler Scenic Highway, a wide, 2-lane, all weather Montana Highway convenient to the I-90. Missoula is 90 miles to the west. 30 miles to the east is Fairmont Hot Springs with 2 Olympic-size pools and 2 soaking pools (open 24 hours to registered guests). Fairmont also sports Montana's only year-round, 350-foot water slide. Fairmont is a great place to soak, relax, get a therapeutic massage... the lodging is affordable and Ski and Slide Packages are available.
